Task 4 Group Film Marketing & Strategy- Philomena comparison

Philomena- this is made by an indpendent film distributors, Phathē.  Philomena has been marketed through trailers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rG3QP8foCvg and has a few different film posters, however as this is a independent film company there is less of a budget so there is not as much publicity and marketing put into this as a big promotion movie could have. Here is one of the posters, the characters/actors are key for this poster, they are the main focus meaning that they are what is the main reason to pull people into their film. All of the material made for Philomena got a box office profit of $22,140,681 where as the About Time made $58,252,588. Philomena has a very different audience in comparison to About Time, as they have much an older crew of actors and the storyline is mature. There is a lot of press about Judi Dence's part within this film as she is one of Britain's most famous female actresses. The trailer is also another marketing point http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14zLs-0t3yw In comparison to About Time the trailer expresses much more delicate situations and a deeper telling into one story line other than dipping in and out of others influences in life.   

~The poster above would be typically placed on the underground where thousands of people past every day, this would reach out past their target audience and expand their views. The poster alike About time shows very little, for both of these films their actors are one of their main selling points. Their layout is very similar yet their composition within the poster is different. about time is a close up of a classic scene, laughing in the rain to attract the romance genre lovers. They are completely different in their genre and target audience as well as narrative, About Time is fiction where as Philomena is a true story and others have shared this experience. The colours in the Philomena poster are very bright and bold which once again is similar to About Time. The captions are very different as About time have rhetorical questions however Philomena displays the awards they have won and also how many stars they have received from film critics.
